Truck driver booked for sell­ing tyres worth ` 12 lakh

The Kalam­boli po­lice have booked a truck driver for al­legedly sell­ing tyres worth Rs 12 lakh he was trans­port­ing from Madu­rai and then ran away leav­ing be­hind the ve­hi­cle in their area.

Ac­cord­ing to the po­lice, the sus­pect trans­ported the tyres from Tamil Nadul to de­liver to a shop in Kalam­boli.

How­ever, in­stead of de­liv­er­ing them to the shop he sold the tyres to some other peo­ple and then went into hid­ing. He is yet to be ar­rested.

His em­ployer ap­proached the po­lice when the tyres were not de­liv­ered to the shop even af­ter nine days.

“The sus­pect left Madu­rai on Jan­uary 7. How­ever, he did not reach the shop in Kalam­boli even af­ter nine days. His em­ployer then en­quired the mat­ter and re­alised that shop did not re­ceive the tyres till Jan­uary 16,” said a po­lice of­fi­cer from Kalam­boli po­lice sta­tion.

“He then ap­proached us. We later found the aban­doned truck at a truck ter­mi­nal in our area,” he added.

“We have reg­is­tered a first in­for­ma­tion re­port (FIR) un­der sec­tions 407 (crim­i­nal breach of trust by car­rier) of the In­dian Pe­nal Code ( IPC) against the driver. We have no idea whether he sold the tyres in Navi Mum­bai or some­where else. We are now in­ves­ti­gat­ing the mat­ter and hope to ar­rest the driver soon,” he added.
