COU­PLE HELD, 3 GIRLS ABOUT TO BE SOLD RES­CUED

The crime branch of Thane po­lice on Wed­nes­day claimed to have foiled an at­tempt by a cou­ple to sell three girls. Deputy com­mi­sioner of po­lice Parag Manere said the girls, aged 7 years, 6 years and 5 years, were res­cued by a team led by se­nior in­spec­tor Ni­teen Thack­eray. The team raided a house in Gale­gaon of Am­bivili. Shab­u­lan Ram­murti Mali and his wife An­jalina Jy­oti Sab­u­lin Mali were ar­rested. The ac­cused, who ran a trust, brought chil­dren mostly from red light area and sold them to child­less cou­ples for about Rs 1 lakh, the po­lice said. The res­cued girls were sent to a child shel­ter home.
