Senior citizen robbed of gold chain while boarding ST bus
NAVI MUMBAI: A senior citizen was robbed of her gold chain worth Rs25,000 at the State Transport bus depot on Friday.
According to the police, Leela Pawar, 62, a resident of Lonivlivadi village, was heading home from the town.
While she was boarding the bus at the depot, an unidentified person who was loitering in the area, snatched the gold chain and ran away. “The woman shouted for help, but the people at the depot could not get hold of the culprit,” said a police officer from Panvel city police station.
The police have booked the accused under section 392 (punishment for robbery) of the Indian Penal Code. “We are now investigating the case and hope arrest the accused soon,” the officer said.
The incident highlighted the poor safety measures of ST bus depots. “The pathetic condition of Panvel ST depot is a cause of concern for the past several months. Passengers, especially senior citizens, find it tough to take care of their belongings,” said Amitabh Bose, 46, a resident of Panvel.
