PALM BEACH RD TO BE SHUT FOR MARATHON TO­DAY

NAVI MUM­BAI: As a part of the Navi Mum­bai Kala and Kreeda Ma­hot­sav, the Navi Mum­bai Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion (NMMC) is or­gan­is­ing the Mayor’s Marathon on Palm Beach Road on Sun­day.

There will be a 15-km run for the open men’s cat­e­gory and a 10-km run for the open women’s cat­e­gory. There will also be a 3-km run for boys and girls un­der 14 cat­e­gory and 5- kilo­me­tre run for those above 15. The event is open for all res­i­dents of Thane district.

There will also be a 2-km walk for men and women in the se­nior ci­ti­zen’s cat­e­gory. This is only for the res­i­dents of Navi Mum­bai.

The pro­grammes are sched­uled to start at 7am and will be con­ducted be­tween Mo­raj Cir­cle at San­pada and NMMC head­quar­ters at Belapur. The traf­fic depart­ment has de­cided to the block both sides of Palm Beach road be­tween 5am and 11am.

“We have de­cided to block the road till 11am to keep the stretch open for par­tic­i­pants. We re­quest mo­torists to use the ser­vice roads of Sion- Pan­vel high­way to reach Belapur from Vashi or vice versa dur­ing this time. Puni­tive mea­sures will be taken in case of vi­o­la­tions of the norms,” said Arvind Salve, deputy com­mis­sioner of po­lice (traf­fic).
