11 arrested at Rabale for gambling
NAVI MUMBAI: As many as 11 people were arrested after police conducted a raid at a gambling den at Rabale on Monday night.
Acting on a tip- off, a police team led by deputy commissioner of police (zone 1) Shahaji Umap raided the gambling den at Taushil Naka.
They rounded up the people who were caught playing cards.
They have also seized Rs43,370 from their possession.
Two persons who had been illegally running the den have been i dentified as Madan Shankar Chahan, 36, and Vinod Mansingh Rathod, 25, both residents of Rabale. Both of them have been arrested too.
“When our personnel reached the spot, the suspects were found playing cards. We arrested all of them when we learnt that they were playing for money,” Umap said.
The suspects have been booked under sections 4 and 5 of Bombay Prohibition of Gambling Act.
For preventing illegal activities being run in the city, Umap had formed a special squad around three months ago comprising around 10 officials.
The squad has so far conducted raids at several video parlours, entertainment clubs, massage parolours and lottery shops for allowing immoral activities and arrested more than 200 people.
“We are also taking action on people drinking in the open and people running flesh trade in from rented places,” Umap said.
“We appeal to the city residents to inform us if they get to know about any illicit activity going on in their neighbourhood. Identity of the informers will be kept secret,” added the deputy commissioner of police.
