36 personnel awarded with police medals
NAVI MUMBAI: As many as 36 police officers from Navi Mumbai were awarded with Special Security Service Awards and Internal Service Awards on Republic Day.
Minister of state for Women and Child Development, Food and Civil Supplies Vi dya Thakur awarded the officials with the medals for their outstanding performances in the naxal affected areas of the state.
“After a proper assessment of their services to the department, these medals are given every year on Independence Day and this year we selected these seven officers for this honour,” Prashant Khaire, deputy commissioner of police ( headquarters)
“Three districts of Maharashtra, Gadchiroli, Gondia and Banjara are naxal affected and almost every police officer has to think twice before going to work in these districts. In fact many officers and constables have lost their lives fighting with the naxalites over there. Each of the six officials dedicatedly worked there at least for three years and showed their immense courages. It is a big achievement in true sense of the term,” he said.
The main flag hoisting function in the Navi Mumbai was held at NMSA ground at Vashi.
Navi Mumbai police commissioner Prabhat Ranjan, deputy commissioner of police ( zone 1) Shahaji Umap, deputy commissioner of police ( crime) Dilip Sawant and other senior police officers were present at the event.
Assistant police inspector of Nerul police station, Sachin Hire who was also awarded with Special Security Award Service, said, “I worked in Godchiroli for three years. Naxalites were staging various attacks t here in t hose days and I never thought that I would come back alive to my native place. I am really happy that I have been given this honour on Republic day by our department.”
