40-FOOT-LONG DEAD WHALE WASHED ASHORE AT JUHU
The carcass of a 40-foot-long male Bryde’s whale, weighing around 20 tonnes, washed up at Juhu beach on Thursday night. This is the ninth instance of carcasses of large marine mammals found in the city since last year. Officials from the state forest dept’s mangrove cell told HT the whale was identified as a fullygrown Bryde’s whale, which is protected under schedule 1 of the Wildlife Protection Act.
The whale apparently died of natural causes in the deep seas around three days ago. The body was washed ashore at Juhu on Thursday night.
