Padsalgikar may succeed Javed as city top cop today
MUMBAI: The Mumbai police are set to get a new chief on Saturday with the incumbent, Ahmad Javed, vacating the post to take over as the Indian ambassador to Saudi Arabia. Javed is likely to be replaced by DD Padsalgikar, a 1982-batch IPS officer, who has returned to the state police cadre on January 14 after serving in the intelligence bureau (IB) for more than a decade.
Speaking to the media on Friday, Javed said he may write a book on his 36-year-long career in the police force. “I am immensely satisfied with my tenure in the state cadre and with the steps taken to make the system robust,” said Javed, while evading a question on who would succeed him.
Javed also spoke about the recently launched twitter handles of the Mumbai police and CP Mumbai. “Having presence on social media was the need of the hour and we are doing well with all this baatchit (conversation) between the police and the common people,” he said.
