2 arrested for theft in Kalyan, goods worth ` 3 lakh seized
KALYAN: Around 20 days after a break- in at a house in Bail Bazaar in Kalyan ( West), two people were arrested for the crime.
On January 11, Vishal Patil, 27, lodged a complaint saying his house at Charms Star building was robbed on January 10 between 7.30am and 12.30pm when all the family members were away.
The thieves broke open the lock and took away several silver statues and spoons, gold chain and ring , a costly watch, copper utensils , cash and camera collectively worth Rs3.17 lakh.
The Bazarpeth police had formed a team of nine officers under senior police Inspector Dilip Suryavanshi.
The police got the CCTV footages from the building. They idetified the robbers and arrested the two.
“CCTV footages are one of the crucial evidence that helps us in cracking such cases. After the accused were identified with the help of our sources, we searched for them across the city. They were arrested from their houses ,” said Suryavanshi.
The police arrested Niyajali Mohammad Sheikh, 26, at his residence at Ulhasnagar 5 and Jitu Rajesh Kadam, 20, from his residence at Mharal village Kalyan (West).
The police recovered stolen goods worth Rs1.55 lakh.
Kalyan deputy commissioner of police Sanjay Jadhav has appealed to the residents to install CCTV cameras on their building premises.
“It is important for every residential complex and housing society to have CCTV cameras installed on the building premsies,” said Jadhav on Friday while addressing mediapersons.
“The police managed to crack the theft case and arrest the accused because of the CCTV cameras. Otherwise, it would have been a difficult task as usually there is no evidence i n such i ncidents,” added Suryavanshi.
