2 ar­rested for theft in Kalyan, goods worth ` 3 lakh seized

Around 20 days af­ter a break- in at a house in Bail Bazaar in Kalyan ( West), two peo­ple were ar­rested for the crime.

On Jan­uary 11, Vishal Patil, 27, lodged a com­plaint say­ing his house at Charms Star build­ing was robbed on Jan­uary 10 be­tween 7.30am and 12.30pm when all the fam­ily mem­bers were away.

The t hieves broke open the lock and took away sev­eral sil­ver stat­ues and spoons, gold chain and ring , a costly watch, cop­per uten­sils , cash and cam­era col­lec­tively worth Rs3.17 lakh.

The Bazar­peth po­lice had formed a team of nine of­fi­cers un­der se­nior po­lice In­spec­tor Dilip Surya­van­shi.

The po­lice got the CCTV footages from the build­ing. They ide­ti­fied the rob­bers and ar­rested the two.

“CCTV footages are one of the cru­cial ev­i­dence that helps us in crack­ing such cases. Af­ter the ac­cused were iden­ti­fied with the help of our sources, we searched for them across the city. They were ar­rested from t h e i r h o u s e s, ” said Surya­van­shi.

Mo­ham­mad Sheikh, 26, at his res­i­dence at Ul­has­na­gar 5 and Jitu Ra­jesh Kadam, 20, from his res­i­dence at Mharal vil­lage Kalyan (West).

The po­lice re­cov­ered stolen goods worth Rs1.55 lakh.

Kalyan deputy com­mis­sioner of po­lice San­jay Jad­hav has ap­pealed to the res­i­dents to in­stall CCTV cam­eras on their build­ing premises.

“It is im­por­tant for ev­ery res­i­den­tial com­plex and hous­ing so­ci­ety to have CCTV cam­eras in­stalled on the build­ing prem­sies,” said Jad­hav on Fri­day while ad­dress­ing me­di­a­per­sons.

“The po­lice man­aged to crack the theft case and ar­rest the ac­cused be­cause of the CCTV cam­eras. Oth­er­wise, it would have been a dif­fi­cult task as usu­ally there is no ev­i­dence i n such i nci­dents,” added Surya­van­shi.
