The Pan­vel city po­lice have reg­is­tered a case af­ter some uniden­ti­fied peo­ple for steal­ing a trailer worth Rs 12 lakh on Thurs­day.

Ac­cord­ing to the po­lice, the driver Shivaji Khed­kar, 26, parked the trailer near Bharat dhaba on Pan­vel-JNPT Road on Jan­uary 22.

He found out the theft af­ter he re­turned to the spot on Jan­uary 27. He later ap­proached the po­lice and reg­is­tered a first in­for­ma­tion re­port.

“We have reg­is­tered a case un­der sec­tion 379 of the In­dian Pe­nal Code against the uniden­ti­fied cul­prits. We are now search­ing for them and hope to ar­rest them soon,” said one po­lice of­fi­cer from Pan­vel city po­lice sta­tion.

“De­spite re­peated re­quests, peo­ple park their ve­hi­cles on road. They do not even in­stall a GPS sys­tem in their ve­hi­cles. If the own­ers them­selves are not both­ered about the safety of their ve­hi­cles, po­lice can do very lit­tle to pro­tect them,” the of­fi­cer said.

“Just f our days ago, we ar­rested a his­tory sheeter and re­cov­ered 17 stolen two-wheel­ers from him. So we are do­ing out duty as far as pos­si­ble. We want the res­i­dents and other peo­ple to co­op­er­ate with us,” said Su­nil Ba­jare, se­nior po­lice in­spec­tor of Pan­vel city po­lice sta­tion.
