KALYAN TO HIRE NAVI MUMBAI AGENCY FOR ROAD DECONGESTION PROJECT
With an increase in vehicle population across Kalyan- Dombivli Municipal Corporation ( KDMC), roads in the city have turned into a mess.
The Kalyan railway station, one of the prime locations in the city, is congested with traffic 24x7.
The KDMC for the first time has planned to prepare an integrated plan for traffic management to tackle road congestion.
The civic body’s standing committee has approved the plan to invite a private entity to look into this and develop a detailed i nte g rated plan to manage the city’s traffic movement.
On Monday, KDMC standing committee chairman Sandeep Gaikar gave a nod to the plan.
He decided to hire a private agency from Navi Mumbai to chalk out the plan in the next three months.
“It is high time that the city had an integrated plan for the traffic flow which will help ease road congestion. Most residents of Kalyan and Dombivli have their own vehicles and the number of vehicle plying in the city has increased,” said Gaikar.
“We need to find out a solution on traffic management. We have decided to invite a private firm to do the job and help the civic body implement the solutions,” he added.
The private firm will conduct a detailed survey on the traffic flow with the help of the traffic police and it will prepare a development plan report and submit it to the civic body after three months for implementation.
In its study and survey the agency will look into the traffic related problems, the routes which causes congestion, the traffic flow, how it is managed by the traffic department and ways to curb the congestion.
“We will start implementing the plan immediately after it is submitted to us,” said PK Ugale, city Engineer KDMC.
The city has no working traffic signal. There are no traffic policemen deployed at major locations to monitor traffic.
Assistant commissioner of police ( traffic) SK Dubal said: “Several meetings between the traffic police and the civic body have been held to tackle the congestion. The integrated plan will help in installing traffic signals and CCTV cameras. We have also asked the civic body to conduct surveys during holidays so that traffic movement is not hampered.”
