Vashi man loses ` 1L to cybercriminals
NAVI MUMBAI: A 46-year-old resident of Vashi fell prey to cybercriminals after some unidentified people used his credit card to shop online. The man lost Rs1.03 lakh.
According to the police, the culprits somehow took the details of his card and then used it for online shopping.
They had submitted fake email-id and phone number to ensure that the victim did not receive any message or email about the transaction.
“The culprits used the cards between January 14 and 17. However, the victim was not aware of this as he had not received any message about it. On January 25, when he visited the bank to ask for the statement, he came to know about the crime,” said Pratibha Shendage, police inspector from Navi Mumbai cyber cell.
“He then checked the email address and phone number available with the bank and learnt that those were not provided by him. Later, he came to us and registered an FIR,” she said.
The police have registered a case under sections 419 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code and sections 43(b), 66, 66(c) and 66(d) of the IT Act.
“We are recording statements of the bank officials. Our team is investigating the matter and hope to solve it soon,” Shendge added.
