The dam used to overflow earlier because of good rainfall and we could supply sufficient water to residents. However, the last year’s rainfall was as bad as that of 2004 and thus we are facing a crisis situation.

Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is the only civic body in India that owns a dam. Cidco takes water (120mld) from Hetawane and Bhokarpada dams to distribute in their jurisdiction, but both the dams belong to Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran.
Likewise MIDC takes water from different sources from across the state to distribute in the industrial units of their area.
The NMMC takes 2mld and 55mld water from Cidco and MIDC respectively.
Certain nodes of Navi Mumbai such as Airoli are getting water for only three days a week.
