39 rooms of labour­ers de­stroyed in Kalyan fire

KALYAN: Around 39 small rooms of 150 to 200 con­struc­tion work­ers were de­stroyed in a fire at Va­davali vil­lage near Am­bivli rail­way sta­tion on Wed­nes­day. There was no ca­su­alty in the in­ci­dent.

A to­tal of 39 rooms made of fi­bre sheets had been built for con­struc­tion work­ers of an up­com­ing pro­ject. A fire broke out around 12.30pm. Three fire ten­ders from Kalyan reached the spot.

The cause of the fire is yet to be as­cer­tained. “Around 39 rooms were built for con­struc­tion work­ers where the work­ers used to re­side with their fam­ily. We reached the spot on time and doused the fire,” said a fire of­fi­cial.

The work­ers man­aged to run out with some of their be­long­ings. The Khadak­pada po­lice have reg­is­tered a case.

“There has been a loss of around Rs2 lakh in the in­ci­dent. How­ever we are in­ves­ti­ga­tion fur­ther to find out the ac­tual cause of the in­ci­dent,” said a po­lice of­fi­cer.
