39 rooms of labourers destroyed in Kalyan fire
KALYAN: Around 39 small rooms of 150 to 200 construction workers were destroyed in a fire at Vadavali village near Ambivli railway station on Wednesday. There was no casualty in the incident.
A total of 39 rooms made of fibre sheets had been built for construction workers of an upcoming project. A fire broke out around 12.30pm. Three fire tenders from Kalyan reached the spot.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. “Around 39 rooms were built for construction workers where the workers used to reside with their family. We reached the spot on time and doused the fire,” said a fire official.
The workers managed to run out with some of their belongings. The Khadakpada police have registered a case.
“There has been a loss of around Rs2 lakh in the incident. However we are investigation further to find out the actual cause of the incident,” said a police officer.
The fire gutted the makeshift rooms in Kalyan.
