THANE: The Bombay high court has asked the Thane Municipal Corporation to file an affidavit on the city’s garbage disposal system with a week.

The high court was hearing a petition filed by RTI activist Vikrant Chandrahas Tawde against illegal dumping of garbage in Thane.

Tawde has alleged that the TMC has not been following any rule for garbage disposal.

“We have filed a PIL because it’s related to public health. The TMC has been dumping garbage in the open without any scientific process. The high court has asked the TMC to submit an affidavit within a week. The next hearing is on February 12,” said Tawde.

“We have to submit our reply to the court by February 12. The TMC has demanded 100 acres of land from the MMRDA at Taloja. Daily 700 tonnes of garbage is collecting from the city and the garbage dumped at Diva-Daighar site,” said a TMC official.
