Police chief lauds 139 cops for good work
Navi Mumbai police commissioner Prabhat Ranjan felicitated 139 of his officers for their outstanding performances in terms detecting crimes, recovering stolen goods, helping out accident victims and educating the masses in 2015.
The top cop also encouraged his men to continue with their good works. He handed over certificates at a programme held at police headquarters on Thursday.
“Several major cases were solved in the city last year. Despite the fast population growth, the crime rate in the city increased by only 2%. Our conviction rate increased by 7% last year. We can say that police are doing their best and we have also seen good results,” Ranjan said.
For preventing illegal activities being run in the city, the police had formed two special squads around three months ago comprising around 10 officials. This squad has conducted raids at several video parlours, entertainment clubs, massage parolours and lottery shops for allowing immoral activities and arrested over 200 people.
“It is sad that some residents show disinterest in awareness drives conducted by the police against house break-ins and other crimes. They hardly follow the precautionary measures mentioned in the notices put up by cops in various parts of the city. There will be a considerable decline in burglary cases if they even read and follow the safety measures mentioned in such notices,” Ranjan added.
Appealing to the residents for support, Ranjan said, “We cannot complete investigations without cooperation of residents who are actually plain clothes police.”
