Build more FOBs on Ghod­bun­der Road: Res­i­dents

THANE: Work on foot over bridges (FOB) on Ghod­bun­der Road should be com­pleted fast, de­manded lo­cal res­i­dents af­ter a 13-year-old boy died while cross­ing the road on Jan­uary 31.

While the Thane Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion (TMC) has sanc­tioned eight FOBs, res­i­dents have de­manded more as it is dif­fi­cult for pedes­tri­ans to cross the road ow­ing to widen­ing of the road.

Con­struc­tion of one of the eight FOBs has been com­pleted and work has been started on the se­cond one, ac­cord­ing to TMC of­fi­cials. “The FOB at Anand Na­gar Junc­tion has al­ready been con­structed and work on the FOB at Jupi­tor hos­pi­tal has com­menced. Ten­der­ing process for the of the FOBs is com­plete and we have al­lo­cated a bud­get of Rs33 crore for the pro­ject,” said a TMC of­fi­cial on con­di­tions of anonymity.

How­ever, res­i­dents want the re­main­ing FOBs to be ready soon.

Kasar­vad­vli res­i­dent Ajay Kon­dekar, 36, said, “The Kasar­va­davli junc­tion is one of the busiest. Es­pe­cially in the morn­ing and at night it is dif­fi­cult to cross the road. Af­ter 9pm heavy ve­hi­cles such as con­tain­ers and trail­ers use the road.”

Res­i­dents of Lodha Par­adise in Ma­ji­wade have also de­manded an FOB on Nashik High­way fol­low­ing the death of a 66-yearold woman last week.

Sulbha Bhat­tachrya, 47, said, “The TMC will build FOBs on Ghod­bun­der Road and our com­plex is lo­cated on the Nashik High­way. Last week Poonam Gur­bani was hit by a truck while she was cross­ing the high­way. We want a new FOB from Lodha to Vrun­da­van So­ci­ety and one arm of the FOB should reach the high­way


Ghond­bun­der Road has be­come dan­ger­ous for pedes­tri­ans.
