Build more FOBs on Ghodbunder Road: Residents
THANE: Work on foot over bridges (FOB) on Ghodbunder Road should be completed fast, demanded local residents after a 13-year-old boy died while crossing the road on January 31.
While the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has sanctioned eight FOBs, residents have demanded more as it is difficult for pedestrians to cross the road owing to widening of the road.
Construction of one of the eight FOBs has been completed and work has been started on the second one, according to TMC officials. “The FOB at Anand Nagar Junction has already been constructed and work on the FOB at Jupitor hospital has commenced. Tendering process for the of the FOBs is complete and we have allocated a budget of Rs33 crore for the project,” said a TMC official on conditions of anonymity.
However, residents want the remaining FOBs to be ready soon.
Kasarvadvli resident Ajay Kondekar, 36, said, “The Kasarvadavli junction is one of the busiest. Especially in the morning and at night it is difficult to cross the road. After 9pm heavy vehicles such as containers and trailers use the road.”
Residents of Lodha Paradise in Majiwade have also demanded an FOB on Nashik Highway following the death of a 66-yearold woman last week.
Sulbha Bhattachrya, 47, said, “The TMC will build FOBs on Ghodbunder Road and our complex is located on the Nashik Highway. Last week Poonam Gurbani was hit by a truck while she was crossing the highway. We want a new FOB from Lodha to Vrundavan Society and one arm of the FOB should reach the highway
Ghondbunder Road has become dangerous for pedestrians.
