Civic body plans contests to laud women’s talents
CBD BELAPUR: Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has planned a special event on on March 8, International Women’s Day, to award Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule award to registered women organisations and mandals for their services.
In order to promote the talent of women and girls, women self-help groups, mahila mandal and women’s organisations, it has also planned a series of competitions.
The competitions include rangoli, cooking, salad dressing, making articles from waste, essay writing, solo singing, group singing, group dance, group drama and so on.
The topics for rangoli competition are clean Maharashtra drive, save environment and save girl child. Participants need to make rangoli on one topic. The competition will be held at the ward-level.
The cooking competition includes preparing various vegetarian delicacies, while the topic for essay is female infanticide. The dances will be of traditional types.
Applications have been invited in prescribed format for participation in the competition and for the award from mahila mandal and organisations dedicated to women and child welfare activities.
An official of the social development department of NMMC said: “Application forms are available at all eight ward offices and social development department of NMMC located on the first floor at Belapur Bhavan in sector 11 of CBD Belapur.”
He added, “Stalls will be provided free to women organisations for products made by them.”
The last date for submitting applications is February 25.
The social development department of NMMC has appealed to women, girls, selfhelp groups, women mandals and organisations to take part in the competitions in large numbers.
