City residents get a taste of India
CBD BELAPUR: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has for the first time organised a food festival in the city. The fest offers a wide variety of food items.
The festival was inaugurated by mayor Sudhakar Sonawane on Thursday. It will continue till February 14.
The fest is being held at the kiosks constructed by NMMC on plot 71, 72 and 73, near K Star hotel at Sector 11 in CBD Belapur. It is open from 10am to 10pm.
Sonawane said, “N av i Mumbai is a city that encompasses people from across the country. Hence, the NMMC decided on holding the festival to offer the taste of cuisine from various states of the country and also various regions of the state under one roof.”
He added, “The festival will also help create large- scale awareness on the kiosks constructed by NMMC at Sector 11 in CBD Belapur, the services that the civic body provides and also ensure the vacant kiosks are rented out so that the other item vendors benefit.”
Sonawane said, “With the cultural scene in Navi Mumbai growing, Navi Mumbai will soon be able to host a festival like Kala Ghoda of Mumbai.”
BJP MLA Manda Mhatre said that the programmes organised by the civic body are for the benefit of the people and that the residents should make maximum use of it.
MLA Sandeep Naik said: “The advice given by the diet experts at the festival will certainly do a world of good to residents.”
Additional municipal commissioner Ankush Chavan said: “Apart from a variety of food stalls at the fest, there are also stalls of handicrafts and other items and song and musical entertainment programmes.”
He added, “There is also medical check-up, eye testing, guidance on healthy cooking and eating habits by experts, consultation on diabetes at a young age and obesity.”
Deputy municipal commissioner ( property) Dadasaheb Chabukswar said, “The NMMC has set up information kiosks at the festival to give details on the vacant kiosks in the area which NMMC proposes to rent out.”
