City res­i­dents get a taste of In­dia

CBD BELAPUR: The Navi Mum­bai Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion has for the first time or­gan­ised a food fes­ti­val in the city. The fest of­fers a wide va­ri­ety of food items.

The fes­ti­val was in­au­gu­rated by mayor Sud­hakar Son­awane on Thurs­day. It will con­tinue till Fe­bru­ary 14.

The fest is be­ing held at the kiosks con­structed by NMMC on plot 71, 72 and 73, near K Star ho­tel at Sec­tor 11 in CBD Belapur. It is open from 10am to 10pm.

Son­awane said, “N av i Mum­bai is a city that en­com­passes peo­ple from across the coun­try. Hence, the NMMC de­cided on hold­ing the fes­ti­val to of­fer the taste of cui­sine from var­i­ous states of the coun­try and also var­i­ous re­gions of the state un­der one roof.”

He added, “The fes­ti­val will also help cre­ate large- scale aware­ness on the kiosks con­structed by NMMC at Sec­tor 11 in CBD Belapur, the ser­vices that the civic body pro­vides and also en­sure the va­cant kiosks are rented out so that the other item ven­dors ben­e­fit.”

Son­awane said, “With the cul­tural scene in Navi Mum­bai grow­ing, Navi Mum­bai will soon be able to host a fes­ti­val like Kala Ghoda of Mum­bai.”

BJP MLA Manda Mha­tre said that the pro­grammes or­gan­ised by the civic body are for the ben­e­fit of the peo­ple and that the res­i­dents should make max­i­mum use of it.

MLA San­deep Naik said: “The ad­vice given by the diet ex­perts at the fes­ti­val will cer­tainly do a world of good to res­i­dents.”

Ad­di­tional mu­nic­i­pal com­mis­sioner Ankush Cha­van said: “Apart from a va­ri­ety of food stalls at the fest, there are also stalls of hand­i­crafts and other items and song and mu­si­cal en­ter­tain­ment pro­grammes.”

He added, “There is also med­i­cal check-up, eye test­ing, guid­ance on healthy cook­ing and eat­ing habits by ex­perts, con­sul­ta­tion on di­a­betes at a young age and obe­sity.”

Deputy mu­nic­i­pal com­mis­sioner ( prop­erty) Dadasa­heb Chabuk­swar said, “The NMMC has set up in­for­ma­tion kiosks at the fes­ti­val to give de­tails on the va­cant kiosks in the area which NMMC pro­poses to rent out.”
