The Navi Mum­bai traf­fic depart­ment is­sued over 40 on the spot e-chal­lans to mo­torists who vi­o­lated traf­fic norms on roads on the first day (Jan­uary 1, 2015).

The An­droid devices have 3G in­ter­net con­nec­tions and it is as easy to use as any smart phone.

As soon as the po­lice put a smart li­cence or smart RC book to its slot, the driver’s name, en­gine num­ber of his ve­hi­cle, his ad­dress and in­sur­ance de­tails are dis­played on the screen. All th­ese de­tails ap­pear on the printed chal­lans.

In case of reg­u­lar li­cence or RC book, they had to put the driv­ers name and reg­is­tra­tion num­ber of his ve­hi­cle on the de­vice.

They are now not us­ing th­ese devices for the past four months, as the bills of the SIM cards have not been paid by the state.
