Standing committee approves ` 18- cr proposals
The standing committee meeting of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) on Friday sanctioned proposals worth Rs18 crore.
They include repair and maintenance of sewerage system in Airoli, Digha, Ghansoli, Kopar Khairane, Nerul and CBD, the state- of- the art 19 mld sewage treatment plant at Sector 12 of Belapur, three water pumping stations at Nerul Master Balancing reservoir.
Corporator Shivram Patil said, “Water should be supplied to the buildings that are now being said to be on CRZ land.”
He said, “There are thousands of illegal buildings which are being charged for water at domestic usage rates. Then, why are those residing in the CRZ buildings being denied water?”
NMMC executive engineer Arvind Shinde said, “The issue is pending with the government. Inadequate rainfall has led to inadequate stock in Morbe dam. So, we have imposed 29% water cut.”
