Stand­ing com­mit­tee ap­proves ` 18- cr pro­pos­als

The stand­ing com­mit­tee meet­ing of Navi Mum­bai Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion (NMMC) on Fri­day sanc­tioned pro­pos­als worth Rs18 crore.

They in­clude re­pair and main­te­nance of sew­er­age sys­tem in Airoli, Digha, Ghan­soli, Kopar Khairane, Nerul and CBD, the state- of- the art 19 mld sewage treat­ment plant at Sec­tor 12 of Belapur, three wa­ter pump­ing sta­tions at Nerul Mas­ter Bal­anc­ing reser­voir.

Cor­po­ra­tor Shivram Patil said, “Wa­ter should be sup­plied to the build­ings that are now be­ing said to be on CRZ land.”

He said, “There are thou­sands of il­le­gal build­ings which are be­ing charged for wa­ter at do­mes­tic us­age rates. Then, why are those re­sid­ing in the CRZ build­ings be­ing de­nied wa­ter?”

NMMC ex­ec­u­tive en­gi­neer Arvind Shinde said, “The is­sue is pend­ing with the govern­ment. In­ad­e­quate rain­fall has led to in­ad­e­quate stock in Morbe dam. So, we have im­posed 29% wa­ter cut.”
