Cidco report on Panvel Municipal Corporation delayed by 3 months
A committee headed by Konkan commissioner has been formed to study the feasibility of formation of Panvel Municipal Corporation that will include the areas of Panvel Municipal Council (PMC), Cidco nodes and some villages.
The committee formed in November last year was to submit its report to the state government in a month’s time. Three months later, Cidco did not submit the accounts report asked from it by the committee which prevented the committee from making its submission to the government.
On Thursday, Cidco submitted the report, which has led to the final stage of the committee work being taken up.
While Konkan commissioner Tanaji Satre is the chairman of the committee, its secretary is PMC chief executive officer Mangesh Chitale. As per the orders given by the urban development department of the state government to the committee, it had to submit its report on the formation of the proposed Panvel Municipal Corporation by the first week of January this year.
Tanaji Satre, Konkan divisional commissioner, said: “Cidco officials have submitted their report to the committee for the proposed Panvel Municipal Corporation. Our committee is now working on it.”
He added, “We have received the reports of other bodies. There are still three meetings of the study committee to be held following which a final report will be prepared and submitted to the government.”
Since t he population in Panvel region has gone upto 8 lakh, there is a possibility of Panvel Municipal Corporation being designated as ` D’ category municipal corporation. However, if it is classified as ` C’ category municipal corporation, it will be eligible to get a number of government grants and incentives.
Since the taxes to be paid by the residents of Cidco colonies will go up once the municipal corporation is formed, several political parties and social organisations have asked the study committee to take the residents into confidence and then demand a municipal corporation.
