Four arrested for stealing iron rods from construction site at Taloja
Four people, who allegedly stole iron rods from a construction site at Taloja, were arrested by the police on Thursday.
According to the police, Shiv Chauhan, 30, Ahmad Ali Saha, 26, Jiaur Rehman Khan, 33, and Irfan Hussain, 19, residents of Panvel area, stole the rods from a construction site at Sector 20 on Monday night.
“There were no security guards deployed at the site. Taking advantage of the situation, the accused loaded a tempo with iron rods and fled the spot. We registered an FIR against the unidentified people next morning,” said a police officer from Taloja police station.
Acting on a tip-off, the police raid a place at Pendhar village on Thursday and arrested all four accused. The stolen rods and the tempo collectively worth Rs2.5 lakh have also been recovered from their possession.
“During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime. We are investigating the case if some more people were involved with them. We are also trying to find out if the suspects are members of a huge gang operating in the area. They are in our custody. We have not found any criminal record against them so far,” the officer said.
