ILLEGAL POSTERS: SET YOUR OWN FINES, HC TELLS BJP LEADERS
MUMBAI: The Bombay high court on Thursday fined Ashish Shelar, the BJP’s Mumbai chief, and its MLA Parag Alavani after finding that illegal banners and posters bearing their photographs remain on display despite restraining orders from the court.
The division bench of Justice Abhay Oka and Justice CV Bhadang, however, did not specify the quantum of the fine and instead asked the two to name a sum “commensurate with their status”. They ordered them to pay the fines by demand draft next Friday. The court also fined 12 BJP workers and an activist of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Rs20,000 each over illegal banners and posters bearing their photographs.
The court specified that from the fines, Rs 25,000 will be set aside for the BMC to spend on removing the illegal posters and banners, while the balance will go to an organisation working for the welfare of farmers.
