AIROLI: A 19- year- old first year engineering student hanged himself in Airoli on Wednesday.

According to police, it appeared that Harshshil Shambharkar committed suicide over fear of failing in the exam that he had recently appeared for.

Shambharkar, a chemical engineering student of Datta Meghe College of Engineering of Airoli, was found dead in his rented flat at in Sector 2 of Airoli. He had hanged himself by a rope.

The flat had been rented by Shambharkar along with two third year students of the college. Shambharkar hailed from Nagpur, where his parents reside.

The suicide note reads: ‘I quit. Sorry Mummy Pappa.’

He had drawn a face with tears on the note that bears his college name. Shambharkar had noted three mobile numbers on the paper, one of his father and two of his brother. He had requested his friend to inform his family of his death.

According to deputy commissioner of police Shahji Umap, “The boy had recently appeared for his first semester exam.

He had then called a friend in Nagpur and said the papers had been very difficult and he would pass in only one or two subjects.”

Shambharkar’s roommate, speaking on condition of anonymity said, “He had come to stay here six months ago. He hailed from a middle class family and had scored 74% in HSC.”

He added, “He never gave us any inkling of being disturbed. His fee had been paid and there never seemed to be any issue.”

Police said they are investigation all angles in the case.
