Ho­tel own­ers of the city have long en­gaged in a tus­sle with NMMC over the use of marginal space in front of their premises. The Navi Mum­bai Ho­tel Own­ers As­so­ci­a­tion (NMHOA) has re­peat­edly de­manded that the civic body charge the hoteliers for the use of the marginal space, which is any­way used by most and al­low its us­age We are ex­pect­ing replies soon from the 12 ho­tels to which no­tices have been is­sued. They have been given a chance to have their say, as laid down in the law. ANKUSH CHA­VAN, ad­di­tional mu­nic­i­pal com­mis­sioner for all 12 months. The as­so­ci­a­tion says that its de­mand has been pend­ing for the past al­most 15 years.

While the as­so­ci­a­tion

has around 650 mem­bers in the city, there are al­most 1,000 hoteliers in Navi Mum­bai. A ma­jor­ity of them have marginal space in front of their premises and they make use of them. There is a pos­si­bil­ity of the space be­ing used com­mer­cially which will lead to park­ing is­sues. If marginal space is not free, there could be prob­lems in case of fire.
