PERMANENT MARGINAL SPACE
Hotel owners of the city have long engaged in a tussle with NMMC over the use of marginal space in front of their premises. The Navi Mumbai Hotel Owners Association (NMHOA) has repeatedly demanded that the civic body charge the hoteliers for the use of the marginal space, which is anyway used by most and allow its usage We are expecting replies soon from the 12 hotels to which notices have been issued. They have been given a chance to have their say, as laid down in the law. ANKUSH CHAVAN, additional municipal commissioner for all 12 months. The association says that its demand has been pending for the past almost 15 years.
While the association
has around 650 members in the city, there are almost 1,000 hoteliers in Navi Mumbai. A majority of them have marginal space in front of their premises and they make use of them. There is a possibility of the space being used commercially which will lead to parking issues. If marginal space is not free, there could be problems in case of fire. DINESH WAGHMARE, NMMC chief
