Court says Pachauri vi­o­lated travel or­der; his surety for­feited

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Satur­day said TERI ex­ec­u­tive vice- chair­man RK Pachauri has vi­o­lated the travel con­di­tions granted to him af­ter he was ac­cused of sex­ual ha­rass­ment by a fe­male col­league last yyear.

The court has for­feit-for­feited Pachauri’s sure­tyurety bond of Rs4 lakh that he fur nished. The amount will havee to be de­posited by him by Mon­day.

The court said Pachauri failed to re­turn to In­dia as per sched-sched­ule from Shar­jah,h, where he went to re­ceive a Life­time Achieve­ment Award on Fe­bru­ary 16, and there was noth­ing on record to show that the sched­ule of the event was changed at the last minute.

“In th­ese cir­cum­stances, it is clear the ac­cused has de­lib­er­ately and uni­lat­er­ally ex­tended the lib­er­tyy grant­edg to him. Thus, it is a clear cas­case of vi­o­la­tion of terms andan con­di­tions, sub­ject tot which, the ac­cused was per­mit­tedted to trav­elt abroad vide o rder dated Fe­bru­aryFe­brua 15,” metropoli­tan mag­is­trate Shivani Chauhan said.
