Festival at Vashi lauds tamasha artistes
VASHI: The state-level Dholkiphad Tamasha Mahotsav lauded the works of senior tamasha artiste Gangaram Buwa, also known as Songdya, by giving him the lifetime achievement award on Saturday at Cidco exhibition ground in Vashi.
Directorate of cultural affairs has organised a state-level festival, which ends on Sunday, to spread awareness about the folk tradition.
“The tamasha artistes dedicate their lives to the art but we often fail to recognise and appreciate their talent,” said MLA Manda Mhatre on Friday during the inauguration.
“We invite residents to understand the intricacies of the popular culture of the state,” said Valsa Nair, principal secretary of cultural affairs department.
“Sunday night has performances by well- known groups from all over the state,” said Ajay Ambekar, department director.
