MAN WHO RAPED 6-YEAR- OLD NIECE IN POLICE CUSTODY
NAVI MUMBAI: The 23- year- old man from Rabale who allegedly raped his 6-year-old niece, has been remanded to police custody till February 29.
According to the police, the accused- Kailash Gaikward would stay in the same chawl at Talouli area as with the victim.
“Around 7.30 pm on Monday, when the victim was playing with another girl near a temple, the accused took her to his residence.
The accused is married and has two children. However, his wife and children had gone to their native place in Nanded a few days earlier. Taking the advantage of the situation, he allegedly raped the girl,” said Mahesh Bhavikatti, assistant police inspector from Rabale police station.
Meanwhile, the other girl with whom the victim was playing informed the victim’s mother that her daughter had been picked up by the accused. The mother found something amiss and she rushed the accused’s residence.
“As the mother knocked at his door, the accused came out, but he was not allowing her to get in. The mother then forcefully entered the house and realised what was happening inside. She later approached us and narrated the entire incident,” he said.
Following an FIR registered by the victim’s mother police arrested the accused within a few hours. He has been booked under sections 376, 363, 342 of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
