SIX HELD FOR STEALING TRAILER, COPPER WIRES WORTH ` 93 LAKH
NAVI MUMBAI: Six people who allegedly stole a trailer loaded with copper wires worth Rs 92.95 lakh, have been arrested by the Uran police from Surat.
According to the police, the trailer was on its way to Daman from Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust in Nhava Sheva. However, instead of delivering the wires in a private company in Daman, driver along with the other suspects took it to Surat.
“Even after several days of leaving the port when the company did not receive the consignment, they approached us and registered an FIR. We immediately formed a team to investigate the matter,” said a police officer from Uran police station.
Acting on a tip-off, the police sent the team to Surat last week and they managed to arrest six people involved in the crime. The team also recovered wires along with the trailer.
The arrested people have been i dentified as Manoj Kumar Sharma, 52, a resident of Rajasthan, Prakash Vora, 47, a resident of Rajasthan, Raju Shukla, 39, Vinod Tiwari, 26, Arun Kumar Chuabe, 40, and Pradeep Shukla, 36, all residents of Uttar Pradesh.
The main accused and the drive of the trailer are still absconding.
“The suspects kept the wires at a deserted place in Surat. They were planning to sell those to some other companies in Delhi. However, our team reached the spot before they could execute that plan,” the officer said.
