Three ar­rested for cheat­ing peo­ple with fake notes

NAVI MUM­BAI: Three mem­bers of gang, who used to cheat peo­ple with fake cur­rency notes, have been ar­rested by the Navi Mum­bai crime branch.

Ac­cord­ing to the po­lice, the sus­pects used to tell the prospec­tive vic­tims that they had some for­eign cur­rency notes with them and that they were in­ter­ested to ex­change those with In­dian cur­rency of lower face value as they needed money ur­gently.

Later, they cheated the vic­tims by giv­ing bun­dles of pa­pers cut to the size of the ac­tual notes. In the lat­est in­ci­dent, they robbed one man of Rs2 lakh on Fe­bru­ary 2.

The ar­rested men have been iden­ti­fied as Ja­mal Khan, 32, a res­i­dent of Kalam­boli, Ibrahim Man­dal, 35, and Jahrul Taraf­dar, 25, both res­i­dents of Kalyan. All of them are from West Ben­gal.

“We had been search­ing for the gang for the past sev­eral weeks and fi­nally ar­rested th­ese three mem­bers near Kopar Khairane rail­way sta­tion on Mon­day. We have re­cov­ered 20 US dol­lars and 100 Saudi riyals and Rs1 lakh from them,” said a po­lice of­fi­cer.

“The ac­cused have con­fessed to com­mit­ting some crimes. We are now search­ing for other mem­bers of the gang,” the of­fi­cer said.
