Platinum, silver worth ` 2 cr stolen
NAVI MUMBAI: The police have booked some l abourers for stealing platinum and silver worth Rs 2 crore in the past five years. Hindustan Platinum takes raw materials from ONGC and refines them. A few months ago, they realized that some of their labourers were stealing pieces of silver and platinum from the raw materials.
“The officials claim that the labourers leave with pieces of silver and platinum in their mouths and other cavities of their bodies. They claim that the labourers have stolen around 235kgs of silver and 4kgs of platinum since 2011. The market value of the metal would be around Rs2 crore,” said Devidas Sonawne, senior police inspector from Navi Mumbai crime branch. “A case under section 381 and 34 of the IPC has been registered,” he added.
