Plat­inum, sil­ver worth ` 2 cr stolen

NAVI MUM­BAI: The po­lice have booked some l abour­ers for steal­ing plat­inum and sil­ver worth Rs 2 crore in the past five years. Hin­dus­tan Plat­inum takes raw ma­te­ri­als from ONGC and re­fines them. A few months ago, they re­al­ized that some of their labour­ers were steal­ing pieces of sil­ver and plat­inum from the raw ma­te­ri­als.

“The of­fi­cials claim that the labour­ers leave with pieces of sil­ver and plat­inum in their mouths and other cav­i­ties of their bod­ies. They claim that the labour­ers have stolen around 235kgs of sil­ver and 4kgs of plat­inum since 2011. The mar­ket value of the metal would be around Rs2 crore,” said De­v­i­das Son­awne, se­nior po­lice in­spec­tor from Navi Mum­bai crime branch. “A case un­der sec­tion 381 and 34 of the IPC has been reg­is­tered,” he added.
