WOMAN CHEATS TAXI DRIVER BY PROMIS­ING HIM CHEAPER GOLD

A woman al­legedly cheat­ing a taxi driver of Rs1.5 lakh by promis­ing him gold at a cheaper rate. The Kopar Khairane po­lice have booked the woman.

Ac­cord­ing to the po­lice, the ac­cused met Vasudev Sir­sath in April 2014. She later told him that she could pro­vide him some gold seized by the cus­toms depart­ment at a cheaper rate and took Rs2.5 lakh from him. “Af­ter a few months, the ac­cused told the vic­tim that she was un­able to keep her prom­ise. She re­turned Rs1lakh on the same day and said she would re­turn Rs 1.50 lakh af­ter a few days,” said a po­lice of­fi­cer from Kopar Khairane po­lice sta­tion.

“Sir­sath re­ceived a cheque of Rs1.5 lakh from her within a week. How­ever, when went to de­posit the check in the bank, he re­alised that it was bo­gus,” he said.

He tried to con­tact the ac­cused but to no avail. He ap­proached the po­lice and reg­is­tered an FIR.

“We sus­pect the woman cheated oth­ers us­ing the same modus operandi. We have reg­is­tered a case un­der sec­tion 420 of the In­dian Pe­nal Code against her. Our in­ves­ti­ga­tions are on to find out if she has any link with the cus­toms depart­ment,” an­other po­lice of­fi­cer said.
