WOMAN CHEATS TAXI DRIVER BY PROMISING HIM CHEAPER GOLD
A woman allegedly cheating a taxi driver of Rs1.5 lakh by promising him gold at a cheaper rate. The Kopar Khairane police have booked the woman.
According to the police, the accused met Vasudev Sirsath in April 2014. She later told him that she could provide him some gold seized by the customs department at a cheaper rate and took Rs2.5 lakh from him. “After a few months, the accused told the victim that she was unable to keep her promise. She returned Rs1lakh on the same day and said she would return Rs 1.50 lakh after a few days,” said a police officer from Kopar Khairane police station.
“Sirsath received a cheque of Rs1.5 lakh from her within a week. However, when went to deposit the check in the bank, he realised that it was bogus,” he said.
He tried to contact the accused but to no avail. He approached the police and registered an FIR.
“We suspect the woman cheated others using the same modus operandi. We have registered a case under section 420 of the Indian Penal Code against her. Our investigations are on to find out if she has any link with the customs department,” another police officer said.
