For a population of 12 lakh in the city, Morbe dam supplies 367 mld of water while MIDC supplies 55 mld, taking the total supply to 422 mld. Hence, each person gets an average of 150 litres of water.

The NMMC faces a huge challenge of plugging such leaks. It has accepted that 19% water is lost in transit, which amounts to 80 mld and thereby a loss of crores of rupees annually.

In 2014-15, the NMMC spent Rs115 crore on water supply, while it earned just Rs86.77 crore in revenue. There are 56 water pumping stations in the NMMC area and 115 underground and over water tanks to collect water from master balancing reservoirs.

While the Morbe dam pipeline is 108km-long, the city has a total internal pipeline network of 972 km to supply water.
