A 40-year-old man posing as a crime branch official told a Vile Parle homemaker that her husband had been detained in Germany in connection with a sex racket. He then told her that if she wished to save him, she would ‘have to have sex with him multiple times’. The woman registered a complaint with the Mumbai police, following which he was arrested within a week.

One Ashok Nagaria, 49, from APMC, who would introduce himself as deputy superintendent of police of the anti-corruption bureau, was arrested by the Vashi police. The police also recovered a fake identity card from his possession.

A 54-year-old homemaker from Kopar Khairane was robbed of her gold necklace worth Rs54,000 after a man posing as a policeman told her there was a murder ahead and it would not be safe for her wear the precious necklace. The ‘fake policeman’ then volunteered to help her pack her necklace, which he slyly replaced with a stone.
