A 40-year-old man pos­ing as a crime branch of­fi­cial told a Vile Parle homemaker that her hus­band had been de­tained in Ger­many in con­nec­tion with a sex racket. He then told her that if she wished to save him, she would ‘have to have sex with him mul­ti­ple times’. The woman reg­is­tered a com­plaint with the Mum­bai po­lice, fol­low­ing which he was ar­rested within a week.

One Ashok Na­garia, 49, from APMC, who would in­tro­duce him­self as deputy su­per­in­ten­dent of po­lice of the anti-cor­rup­tion bureau, was ar­rested by the Vashi po­lice. The po­lice also re­cov­ered a fake iden­tity card from his pos­ses­sion.

A 54-year-old homemaker from Kopar Khairane was robbed of her gold neck­lace worth Rs54,000 af­ter a man pos­ing as a po­lice­man told her there was a mur­der ahead and it would not be safe for her wear the pre­cious neck­lace. The ‘fake po­lice­man’ then vol­un­teered to help her pack her neck­lace, which he slyly re­placed with a stone.
