Bank loan scam: Police seize 10 high- end cars
The police have recovered 10 high- end cars from Kapil Rajput, who has been accused of taking bank loans for 24 such cars and defaulting on the payments.
Director of Dwarka Milk, Rajput, police say is involved in over Rs 350- crore financial scams. Rajput who was arrested by Vashi police is being questioned by Navi Mumbai crime branch. Following his arrest in a case involving allegedly fraudulently transferring a bank loan extended to another person to his company account, several banks reportedly contacted the police and informed that they had not received the instalments on the loans extended by them.
The crime branch has received complaints about 24 such cars and loans worth Rs9.50 crore. that have been defaulted on. Deputy commissioner of police (crime) Dilip Sawant, said, “Following investigations by the economic offence wing of the crime branch, 10 high-end cars have been seized from various places.”
Audi was seized from Rajput while Mercedes was seized from his brother Mithilesh who was using it. It was found from outside Panvel’s Garden hotel. One Line car was seized from a garage in Kopri while the other from former Panvel NCP councilor Sunil Mohad. Police also seized the Corolla and Cruz from Rajput’s chartered accountant Dipesh Thakkar. The Mercedes was seized from Santosh Talpade.
Sawant said, “We are investigating how the cars that Rajput had bought through the loans ended up with the various individuals. We are checking if they were involved in the crime or were victims.”
A police source said, “Rajput has been dropping names of top politicians and influential people. Investigations are on to find out if any of them were beneficiaries.”
