Cop’s house bro­ken into, ser­vice re­volver stolen

A po­lice­man’s house was robbed on Tues­day and his ser­vice re­volver, 10 live bul­lets, cash and jew­ellery were stolen.

The stolen goods are col­lec­tively worth Rs79,200.

Kailash Harib­hau Gaude, 39, is a po­lice naik in the an­tiex­tor­tion cell, Thane.

He and his fam­ily were sleep­ing in their house at Mog­a­rpada Road, Ovala. Around 4am, his 12-year-old daugh­ter woke with a start as some­one stamped her leg. She alerted the other fam­ily mem­bers.

But, the thieves man­aged to es­cape.

“The rob­bers were try­ing to es­cape af­ter steal­ing the goods when a leg hit my daugh­ter’s feet. When she asked who he was, the rob­ber replied that it was her father and that she can go to sleep. But my daugh­ter found some­thing wrong and was alerted. The rob­ber out his hand over her mouth and pushed her. He threw a blan­ket over her and es­caped,” said Gaude.

The ac­cused locked the door from out­side. “My daugh­ter saw that two peo­ple run­ning,” said Gaude.

When he switched on the light, he saw the cup­board open and the place where he had kept his gun was empty.

“Cash and gold or­na­ments were miss­ing from the cup­board. I called my neigh­bors for help who opened the door. I in­formed my se­niors about the in­ci­dent and lodged a com­plaint,” he said.

Se­nior po­lice i nspec­tor from anti-ex­tor­tion cell Thane said: “We are search­ing for the ac­cused and have gath­ered de­tails about the in­ci­dent. The ser­vice re­volver has also been robbed.”

A po­lice of­fi­cer from Kasar­wa­davli po­lice sta­tion said that they are go­ing through the CCTV footage of nearby shops and fur­ther probe is on.

T he ac­cused have been charged un­der sec­tion 457 (house tres­pass or house break- in to com­mit of­fence pun­ish­able with im­pris­on­ment) and 380 (theft in dwelling house) of the In­dian Pe­nal Code.

A PO­LICE OF­FI­CER SAID THAT THEY ARE GO­ING THROUGH THE CCTV FOOTAGE OF NEARBY SHOPS AND FUR­THER PROBE IS ON.
