25-year- old Mumbra biker dies in accident
NAVI MUMBAI: A 25-year-old man from Mumbra died in a road accident after the bike he was riding hit by a tanker near Govanphata on Friday.
According to t he police, Faisal Shaikh, an employee with a private company was coming towards Panvel from Uran. As he was crossing Govanphata around 11.55am, a tanker which was also moving in the same direction hit him from behind.
“Shaikh suffered severe injuries on his head in the accident. He was rushed to a nearby hospital by some local residents, but he died there after sometime,” said one police officer from Panvel city police station.
The police detained t he tanker driver after sometime and sent him for medical tests. However, they did not disclose his name as he is yet to be formally arrested.
There was no other people in the tanker except for him, the police said.
“We think the driver lost control of the tanker and ended up hitting the victim’s bike. We have registered a case under sections 279, 337, 338 and 304a of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act. He will be arrested soon,” the officer said.
Meanwhile the police handed over the victim’s body to his family after post- mortem was conducted in Panvel rural hospital. The post-mortem reports are yet to come.
