25-year- old Mum­bra biker dies in ac­ci­dent

NAVI MUM­BAI: A 25-year-old man from Mum­bra died in a road ac­ci­dent af­ter the bike he was rid­ing hit by a tanker near Go­van­phata on Fri­day.

Ac­cord­ing to t he po­lice, Faisal Shaikh, an em­ployee with a pri­vate com­pany was com­ing to­wards Pan­vel from Uran. As he was cross­ing Go­van­phata around 11.55am, a tanker which was also mov­ing in the same di­rec­tion hit him from be­hind.

“Shaikh suf­fered se­vere in­juries on his head in the ac­ci­dent. He was rushed to a nearby hos­pi­tal by some lo­cal res­i­dents, but he died there af­ter some­time,” said one po­lice of­fi­cer from Pan­vel city po­lice sta­tion.

The po­lice de­tained t he tanker driver af­ter some­time and sent him for med­i­cal tests. How­ever, they did not dis­close his name as he is yet to be for­mally ar­rested.

There was no other peo­ple in the tanker ex­cept for him, the po­lice said.

“We think the driver lost con­trol of the tanker and ended up hit­ting the vic­tim’s bike. We have reg­is­tered a case un­der sec­tions 279, 337, 338 and 304a of the In­dian Pe­nal Code (IPC) and sec­tions 184 of the Mo­tor Ve­hi­cles Act. He will be ar­rested soon,” the of­fi­cer said.

Mean­while the po­lice handed over the vic­tim’s body to his fam­ily af­ter post- mortem was con­ducted in Pan­vel ru­ral hos­pi­tal. The post-mortem re­ports are yet to come.
