CBD BELAPUR: Following a resolution adopted on the issue by the Maharashtra Mayor Council (MMC) at its recently concluded meeting, mayor Sudhakar Sonawane has reiterated his demand for a red beacon on his car.

According to Sonawane, “The MMC has passed a resolution demanding that mayors be allowed to use the beacon atop their cars.”

Sonawane said, “The mayor is the first citizen of a city and so should have a distinct identity.”

He added, “Earlier, even D category mayors had red beacons on their vehicles. Now differentiating between them on the basis of the category of the municipal corporation is wrong. A mayor is a mayor, whichever category the corporation belongs to.”

Sonawane said, “In the first week of April, after the present assembly budget session, we are planning to meet the chief minister and raise the issue with him.”
