65 cell phones recovered from two
CBD BELAPUR: Panvel city police have arrested two thieves and seized 65 mobile phone handsets from them.
The police have also recovered a mangalsutra, and gold necklace totally worth Rs5 lakh.
The accused have been identified as Rakesh Vavle, 28, and Shankar Rathod, 23.
According to police commissioner Prabhat Ranjan, “We were able to get the duo following a complaint lodged by a resident Karishma Deshmukh, whose mobile phone had been stolen.”
He added, “Following a tip-off, a trap was laid. We first managed to get Rathod and after questioning him, arrested Vavle. Vavle had been released from jail just 12 days ago.”
Ranjan said, “They were expert at the crime. They would
target their victims at crowded places and when passengers boarded buses or trains. They would then steal their phones.”
Apart from the mobile phones,
the police also recovered two pieces of jewellery from the accused. Ranjan said, “The mobile phones recovered include high-end smart phones.”
The police, along with police chief Prabhat Ranjan (third from left) display the seized mobile phones on Wednesday.
