Thane police website has not been updated for six months
If you log on to the Thane police website for some information, you will be disappointed.
The website, which connects the residents and the police, has not been updated for the past six months. Thanepolice. org launched on July 14, 2005, said a police officer from Thane cybercrime cell.
Senior police officers have been transferred but their names still figure on the website. This misleads people who want to contact police officers.
Ulhasnagar resident Pooja Lalwani, 30, wanted to complain about the noise during last year’s Navratri. “When I logged on to Thanepolice.org, I was shocked to see that there was no number which I could contact. I had to get numbers from other sources. The website does not mention the new police station in Kalyan,” said Lalwani.
Another Thane resident, who did not wish to be named, said that he had tried to get in touch with a senior police officer but the number he got from the website was wrong. “I regularly log on to Thanepolice.org to keep a tab on crimes as I live in such a place which is full of goons. Whenever I called on a landline number, my call was not transferred to senior officers and I was kept on hold,” he said.
“The police should take these things seriously and keep the website updated,” he added.
Bhiwandi resident Vijay Kumar Pal, 39, too had the same experience. “When I found that the website was not updated, I spoke to a police officer but he dismissed it,” said Pal.
Rumblings could also be heard among policemen.
Anil Akade was promoted to additional commissioner of police but the website still states the earlier posting. “It’s been two months since I have been promoted to ACP. My name in still on the list of Narpoli police station,” Akade said.
Another police inspector from Shildaighar police station, who did not wish to be named, was transferred to the Thane commissionerate a year ago. But his name is yet to be listed on the website. “This becomes a problem for residents who want to contact senior officers,” he said.
Jagdish Sawant, senior police inspector of cybercrime cell, which handles the website, said the website would be updated in a few days. “The website might not be update because there are continuous transfers going on. It is the duty of police stations to inform us. We will gather all information about all police stations in our jurisdiction and then we will update it,” said Sawant.
The Thane police website has listed the phone numbers of police stations, senior police inspectors and additional commissioners of police and deputy commissioners of police. The website is supposed to keep residents updated about the new rules enforced by the police during festivals.
