MAN WITH­DRAWS ATM KIOSK, LOSES 1,000 AT 14K

A 33- year- old man with­drew Rs1,000 from an ATM kiosk out­side DY Patil Col­lege on Satur­day.

Three min­utes later, he got an SMS alert, in­form­ing him that Rs14,000 had been with­drawn from his bank ac­count.

Ac­cord­ing to the po­lice, Vi­nayak Narayan Munj went to the ATM kiosk around 2.20pm on Satur­day and with­drew Rs1,000 us­ing his ATM card. How­ever, just af­ter three min­utes, he re­ceived an­other alert in­form­ing that Rs14,000 had been with­drawn from his ac­count.

Con­fused, he went back to the ATM kiosk to check if some­one else with­drew the money af­ter him. But, he did not find any­one there.

“He ap­proached us and nar­rated the en­tire in­ci­dent. We reg­is­tered a case un­der sec­tion 420 of the In­dian Pe­nal Code and sec­tion 66D of the IT Act. We are ex­am­in­ing the CCTV footages of the ATM kiosk to find the cul­prits,” said a po­lice of­fi­cer from Nerul po­lice sta­tion.

“Af­ter each trans­ac­tion from an ATM, one should al­ways press ‘ can­cel’ but­ton,” he said.
