NAVI MUM­BAI: An uniden­ti­fied per­son, who vol­un­teered to help a se­nior ci­ti­zen by with­draw­ing money at an ATM kiosk, cheated him of Rs40,000.

Ac­cord­ing to the po­lice, Ashok Am­bale, a re­tired army of­fi­cial went to with­draw some money to an ATM kiosk near Kopar Khairane rail­way sta­tion on Sun­day. The man came for­ward to help him to with­draw the money. “An un­sus­pect­ing Am­bale gave him his ATM card and pin num­ber. Af­ter with­draw­ing the money, the man gave it to Am­bale. How­ever, he kept Am­bale’s card with him and re­turned a dif­fer­ent card,” said one po­lice of­fi­cer from Kopar Khairane po­lice sta­tion.

The ac­cused with­drew Rs40,000 in four dif­fer­ent trans­ac­tions. “Later when Am­bale checked with the bank, he learnt about the trans­ac­tions. We have reg­is­tered a case un­der sec­tion 379 of the In­dian Pe­nal Code.,” he added.
