NMMC to pro­mote green build­ings, pro­vide in­cen­tives

CBD BELAPUR: The Navi Mum­bai Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion (NMMC) and In­dian Green Build­ing Coun­cil or­gan­ised a work­shop on ‘Green Build­ings for Greener Navi Mum­bai’ on Fri­day at the Dnyank­endra au­di­to­rium at NMMC head­quar­ters in CBD Belapur.

Mu­nic­i­pal com­mis­sioner Di­nesh Waghmare said, “Soon, we will ini­ti­ate gen­er­a­tion of power from garbage for which per­mis­sion of the state govern­ment is awaited.”

Waghmare added, “We will pro­vide in­cen­tives in the city to pro­mote the green build­ing con­cept.”

City en­gi­neer Mo­han Da­gaonkar said, “We have civic in­fra­struc­ture to sup­port a pop­u­la­tion of 30 lakh.”

Ar­chi­tect Hiten Sethi said: “Thirty per cent of the green projects in the city come from Maharashtra. There is a need for col­lec­tive ef­forts to make Navi Mum­bai green.”
