TMT bus runs over watchman on bike in Thane

THANE: Two people were killed in separate accidents in the city in the past 24 hours.

On Thursday, a 40- year- old watchman died when his twowheeler was hit by a TMT bus near Noori Baba dargah in Naupada. When the TMT bus, which had stopped at Noori Baba dargah stop, started, it hit Dhawalsing­h Lalsingh Thapa, who was overtaking the bus. Thapa was taken to Thane civil hospital, where he was declared dead.

A police officer from Naupada police station said, “We arrested the TMT driver, Davit Girija Mavli, 34. He has been booked under sections 279, 337, 338 and 304a of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act.”

The police said the biker was not wearing a helmet. “He was severely injured on his head.”

On Wednesday, a six-year-old boy died when the two-wheeler he was riding on was hit by a trailer, going towards Thane.

The boy, Kavya, had gone to Ghodbunder Road with his father, mother and brother. His father, Ramesh Gami, 33, who is a businessma­n, was riding the two- wheeler. A police officer from Kasarwadav­li police station said, “The bike was hit by the trailer near Gaimukh naka. Ramesh lost his control. The driver of trailer, Rakeshkuma­r Vaishnav, was arrested.”
