Mumbra man, 2 sons attacked with sword, bat

A 50- year- old garment shop owner and his two sons were attacked by four people at Mumbra in Thane on Friday.

It was high drama on the street as the four men chased two brothers, Aslam and Arif Siddhiqui, and attacked them with a sword and a bat.

T wo people h ave arrested.

The incident happened when the four men were offering ‘ namaz’ at Samrat Na g ar mosque.

They were about to finish their prayers when the two brothers, in their twenties and from the same locality, crossed t hem f rom t he f ront. This angered the four men.

After the prayers, the four people approached Aslam and Arif outside the mosque and after a heated argument started beating them up.

I nve s t i g at i o n officer G Gaikwad from Mumbra police station said, “The two youths’ uncle intervened and stopped the four from thrashing the two.”

But, the four were not done yet.

“The four men then chased them on a bike and started b e at i n g t h e m u p. Seeing the commotion, the yo u t h ’ s family members rushed out to stop the men,” said Gaikwad.

The youth’s father, Anwar, who has a small garment shop, was beaten up badly when he intervened.

“Anwar was hit with the bat

been and attacked with the sword. He has serious injury to his head. He was taken to Thane civil hospital.

“The f our were charged under section 307 ( attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code. Two have been arrested,” said Gaikwad.

The police are investigat­ing from where did the men get the sword and bat.

The ar rested people are Mohammed Khwaja Shaikh, 32, who works as a civil contractor, and Javed Majeed Shaikh, 29, who does odd jobs.
