Stolen items worth ` 16L re­cov­ered, 4 held

A con­tainer driver who in­stead of trans­port­ing the con­tainer to its des­ti­na­tion had fled with the con­sign­ment for sale else­where has been ar­rested by Uran police.

Police have man­aged to re­cover Rs 16 lakh worth of the Rs 18 lakh worth con­sign­ment that was stolen. The ac­cused driver has been iden­ti­fied as Panka­jku­mar Singh, 24.

The com­plainant trans­porter Piyush Bhanushali had handed over Rs 18,67,640 worth of plas­tic gran­ules for trans­porta­tion from Uran to Bhi­wandi. When the con­sign­ment did not reach its des­ti­na­tion, he com­plained at Uran police sta­tion.

Said police com­mis­sioner Prab­hat Ran­jan, “Our in­ves­ti­ga­tions re­vealed that Singh had in­stead of tak­ing the con­sign­ment to Bhi­wandi, fled with it to Chinch­wad area in Pune, where he had sold it to a busi­ness­man.”

Uran police picked up Singh from Pune fol­low­ing the in­for­ma­tion.

Said Ran­jan, “He re­vealed that he had sold the con­sign­ment to one Rahul Bora. He had taken the help of two peo­ple Pramod Chougule (29) and Navdeep La­vande (25). We have ar­rested Bora for pur­chas­ing stolen prop­erty and the other two for help­ing in the crime.”

He added, “We have man­aged to re­cover Rs 16,67,088 worth of the stolen prop­erty.”
