SE­NIOR CIT­I­ZEN RUN OVER BY TRAIN AT NERUL

NAVI MUM­BAI: A 65-year-old man was mowed down by train on habour line be­tween Sea­woods and Nerul rail­way sta­tion on Wed­nes­day.

Ac­cord­ing to the rail­way police Meimun Nasirud­din An­sari, a res­i­dent of Belapur was cross­ing the tracks around 9.55 am when he was hit by a Pan­vel bound train. He suf­fered se­vere in­juries at var­i­ous parts of his body and he died on the spot.

“We learnt about the in­ci­dent from the sta­tion man­ager and rushed him to NMMC hospital. But he was de­clared brought dead there. We later de­liv­ered the body to his fam­ily af­ter post­mortem was con­ducted in the hospital,” said one GRP of­fi­cial.

Ac­cord­ing to the rail­way sources, as many as 252 peo­ple died in the satel­lite city while cross­ing rail­way tracks or fall­ing from trains in 2015 as op­posed to 205 deaths reg­is­tered in 2014.

“Nor­mally peo­ple want ‘short cuts’ to reach the plat­forms or other side of the tracks. For ex­am­ple, 55- 60 ac­ci­dents take place ev­ery year be­tween the Belapur tun­nel and the fly­over that goes to­wards Uran,” said one of­fi­cial from Nerul rail­way sta­tion.

“The ar­eas near Agroli vil­lage and Konkan Bha­van also see fre­quent ac­ci­dents. Most of the ac­ci­dents take place at night when peo­ple face prob­lems in re­al­iz­ing the move­ment of the trains,” he added.

In an­other ac­ci­dent at Thane, se­nior cit­i­zen, rid­ing a two-wheeler, died af­ter he met with an ac­ci­dent in Kalyan on Wed­nes­day.

His two-wheeler was hit by a truck who took a sud­den turn.

The de­ceased was iden­ti­fied as Hark­ishore Ram­lal Mathur, 65, and a res­i­dent of Go­drej Hill in Kalyan.

He was go­ing to­wards Kalyan sta­tion from Kol­she­wadi. He was de­clared dead at hospital in Kalyan.
