Sacked from Thane store, three youths at­tempt rob­bery

THANE: Three youths, be­long­ing to well to do fam­i­lies, were ar­rested for break­ing into a store at a mall at Kasar­wa­davli on Wed­nes­day.

The three are res­i­dents of Thane. They have been iden­ti­fied as Kaus­tub Vi­las Gu­ram, 21, a res­i­dent of Vas­ant Vi­har, Manav Govind Patil,21, a res­i­dent of Happy val­ley com­plex and Anand Singh Hal­patti, 24, a res­i­dent of Don­gri pada.

The three, who used to work at the store, were sacked a few months ago. The store sells branded clothes, sports­wear and sports equip­ment.

On Wed­nes­day, they broke into the store and stole goods worth Rs69,163.

The three had stuffed bags with goods were about to es­cape when an em­ployee opened the store. When he saw goods miss­ing, he found some­thing fishy.

He went in to see the three youth about to run.

He alerted the other em­ploy­ees who were stand­ing out­side the stor and called up the police sta­tion, said a police of­fi­cer from Kasar­wa­davli police sta­tion.

In­ves­ti­ga­tion of­fi­cer, Anand Kargutkar from Kasar­wa­davli police sta­tion, said, “We have started the in­ves­ti­ga­tion. We learnt that the three youth are from good fam­ily but we are yet to learn the mo­tive be­hind the crime.”

The police said that the three en­tered the store from be­hind by climb­ing the pipe. “We sus­pect the three to have en­tered the store in the night and they stayed there till morn­ing. As they were about to es­cape, they were caught. We pro­duced them in court today and they are in police cus­tody,” said Kargutkar.

They have been booked un­der sec­tion 380 (theft in dwelling house) of 34 of the In­dian Pe­nal Code.

We sus­pect the three to have en­tered the store in the night and they stayed there till morn­ing. As they were about to es­cape, they were caught.
